Jordan's Story

Hi! I’m Jordan and welcome to Be Your Best Self and Thrive!

I am so happy you’re here.

I’m from Bradenton, Florida, so I am new to working in the St. Pete area, but I am loving it so far!

I went to school in Lakeland, Florida at Florida Southern College to receive my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminology. I have always been interested in helping people, but I never knew in what way. I decided on psychology because I knew mental health has always been important to me, but I never knew how I wanted to approach it career-wise. I toggled with Criminal Profiler or Social Worker or even a Criminal Psychologist for the FBI, however, the passion was not there. I discovered my passion when I started my own counseling journey my sophomore year of college at my school’s counseling center. It was even more confirmed my junior year when I was assigned to a counselor who really assisted me in my healing journey. I felt so inspired to help other college students, especially first generation college students like myself.

In college, I struggled with issues like self esteem, imposter syndrome, anxiety, depression, friendship loss, and relationship issues. These were things I brought to counseling weekly and I found so helpful to discuss with my therapist. It was empowering to take control of my life in session and work towards overcoming my battles.

While in college, myself and others did not have access to counseling services growing up, so the college counseling center was their first experience in therapy. I believe that it is important to create a welcoming and safe space for those attending therapy for the first time and as they continue their counseling experience. I was fortunate enough to have that with my counselor in college and I want to provide that to others too. Attending therapy for the first time, and even sessions after that, can be scary and overwhelming, but I want to help you overcome those fears.

I use a Person Centered approach, this way you are leading our sessions and making discoveries. I will still be there every step of the way to support you, but you will be the guide of where we go and how we work. This is important to me because I want you to hone in on what matters to you rather than me deciding that for you.

I am a pretty big crystal fanatic. I think crystals are a good, tangible reminder to people of what you are aspiring for. Whether you believe they do anything or not, I still like to use them as reminders for people for what they are growing towards. For example, one of my favorite crystals is a rose quartz. Rose quartz is a symbol for self-love, so I will usually be seen wearing my rose quartz necklace or ring as a reminder to myself that I could always use a little more self love. Crystals are also good worry stones sometimes. I used to keep them in my pocket when I worked at Target and rub them when I was feeling anxious or overwhelmed. It helped to keep my mind on something else and calm me down. Crystals are also just a fun way to express yourself. You can find so many jewelry pieces or home decor, I absolutely love them and you may see them in our sessions!

I am a current student at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida working on my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My anticipated graduation date is May 2024 and I am beyond excited to work in the counseling field full time to help others on their own self-healing and wellness journey. I look forward to joining you on that journey!
